Andrea and Charlie have been musical partners for years and years in the Polka Pants Band, Serpentine, Future Geezers and the Scandinavian trio Hoag, Kelley, Pilzer. They have played dances in the Pacific Northwest and New England and in almost every state in between. Come dance to them in a rare appearance as a duo.

A Celtic Christmas Concert - KA/PO, Andrea Hoag & Eileen Estes
Dynamic duo, KA/PO–Karen Ashbrook & Paul Oorts, are joined by Grammy-nominated fiddler Andrea Hoag and the extraordinary voice of Eileen Estes for a delightful evening performance. The sparkling strings of hammered dulcimer, cittern, and harp guitar blend with rich harmonies and driving melodies on fiddle and accordion. The program will include toe-tapping dance tunes and haunting vocals of seasonal ballads and meditative airs from the shores of the many Celtic nations.

Karen Ashbrook, Paul Oorts, and Andrea Hoag, will perform a set in the QDF Christmas Virtual concerts. There is also a Sunday night concert and the single household pass gets you into both concerts!

Berea Christmas Country Dance School
Country dancing and other folk arts such as folk drama, storytelling, singing, and crafts! Christmas Country Dance Schoolbegins with an evening dance on December 26th. Daily classes offer a variety of English, American, and Scandinavian dance, music, song, and craft traditions. Graded classes are offered, so beginners are given the special attention they need, while experts are provided with new insights and inspiration. Evenings are filled with dancing and Parlor, a time of sharing songs, stories, and special talents. The week concludes with a gala New Year’s Eve dance. The carefully selected staff generously give their time, knowledge, and experience to make the week one of the finest folk arts courses available. Live music is used throughout the School, adding much to the pleasure and merriment. Christmas School offers dance leadership courses for adults and a limited number of select teenagers. Ages 12–17 accepted with parent or guardian.

MAND dance with Loretta Kelley
The Mid-Atlantic Norwegian Dancers will be featuring Andrea Hoag and Loretta Kelley plus other guest musicians playing Swedish and Norwegian tunes for dancing from their freshly-recorded album “Hambo in the Garden” (release date TBD), Saturday December 9. Listeners also welcome!
Slightly different schedule with dancing first, food and socializing after dancing. Doors will open at 6:30, dancing starts at 7, ending somewhat earlier than usual. Drawing on the history of Scandinavian, Celtic, and American folk music, Nordensong’s rich musical world breathes new life into these ancient traditions. Composer/guitarist Karl Lundeberg has written two albums worth of music featuring his own 12-string guitar, as well as GRAMMY-nominated Loretta Kelley on Norwegian Hardanger fiddle and Laura Hummel on Swedish nyckelharpa, resulting in Nordensong’s bold, exciting sound that is a completely new re-imagination of musical eras and genres. Tonight they’re joined by award-winning master fiddler Andrea Hoag (pictured), whose music is “deeply rooted in the Swedish soul” (Falukuriren).

Admission: $20/personPlease come to an afternoon concert by two great fiddlers,Andrea Hoag and Loretta Kelley, playing and singingfolk music from Sweden and Norway. Andrea and Loretta are a Grammy-nominated duo and will be fresh from recording a new album of Scandinavian folk dance tunes. Both draw on their knowledge and experiences from years of immersion in these traditions to give a lively performance embellished with songs, mouth music, and humorous tidbits of Scandinavian folklore. Andrea’s specialty is Swedish folk fiddling, a tradition passed down through the generations with an intricate, distinctively harmonized style. Loretta is an expert on the Hardanger fiddle or hardingfele, a Norwegian fiddle with sympathetic strings that produces brilliant and mesmerizing music that is so unusual that it has been called the best-kept secret of European ethnic music. Loretta also accompanies Andrea on the violin, and both sing in Swedish and Norwegian. Together they present a showcase of the best of the Norwegian and Swedish folk music traditions.
Light refreshments will be served, and pleasant weather has been ordered.
