Musical partnership is more than the sum of its parts. I’ve had a wonderful time over the years playing with Hoag Kelley Pilzer, Karen Ashbrook and Paul Oorts, Maggie Sansone, and many more.
New Albums
I’m thrilled to be a guest musician on Nordensong‘s magnificent debut album “Song of Aino,” released in December 2023. And Loretta Kelley and I will be releasing the newly-recorded “Hambo in the Garden” in fall 2024.
Still Resonant
Two past projects that continue to resonate for me:
- Linda Shenk, Frank Daley and I did a few performances before Frank’s untimely death. Watch a 2021 Zoom concert video below.
- The Dovetail Ensemble, a collaborative project between traditions, was active for a few good years in the 2010s. Watch a documentary about the project and performance videos.

Matt Fichtenbaum Harmony Project
I’m honored to be developing The Matt Fichtenbaum Harmony Project. Matt was an amazing person, musician, and harmonizer. Stay tuned for news this fall.
Master–Apprentice Artist Award Program
What a treat it was to work with Lara Sands as a Master–Apprentice pair in 2022/23. I’m pleased with the accompanying interview, “Fine-Tuned Listening: Andrea Hoag on the intricacies of Swedish fiddle traditions and practice.”
Polska Book
And, a book! Elizabeth Moore and I are working on a book about the polska of Sweden. In text, sheet music, and audio examples we’ll shed light on local and regional musical dialects. It’s a slow process, but full of delights.

Subscription
You can subscribe to the “fast packet” in the form of emails, or you can hold and linger over real paper mail (the “slow packet”) for $25/year to cover printing and mailing costs. No charge for the email option, but you’re always welcome to contribute to my MFA-and-coffee fund. (No gift is too small.) Join my mailing list for subscription information.
Quarterly
For the first year, four mailings: July, October, January, and April. Then we’ll see. Perhaps a more frequent option? A blog? Stay tuned, and meanwhile enjoy some breathing time between mailings!
